DCU’s Media Production Society is the BEST college society in Ireland!

MPS – which DCUfm is a part of – won the biggest prize of the night at the annual Board of Irish College Societies awards in Galway.

Style Soc were DCU’s other winners – they picked up the prize for best poster. The best society award was accepted on behalf of the society by station management from DCUfm and DCUtv and committee members.

Denis McEvoy, DCUfm station manager, said: “MPS is one big family. It’s become more than just a society, we’re at a stage now where MPS is central to its members’ lives. It meant so much to myself and the committee to be there to accept such a deserved prize on behalf of all our friends and colleagues. The lack of shit buzz was EPIC!”

DCUfm news and sport bosses Niall O’Connor and Stephen Long headed an impromptu live celebration programme late last night. Hundreds of messages of support and excitement from inside and outside the society came in and there was live reaction from the after-party at the Galway Bay Hotel. The show is available through DCUfm’s On Demand, just click the player above.

Alan Regan, DCUfm deputy station manager, said: “MPS was relatively small just two years ago, and in terms of what we do this is the equivalent of winning an all-Ireland! We’ve over 350 active members, and it’s great to see everyone rewarded for everything that they do and the way they work their lives around the society.

Personally my own involvement with MPS and especially what’s happened in Galway – it’s the proudest achievement of my life so far. MPS members are all rides, fair fecks to ye all.”

DCUtv station manager Jenny May Finn said: “It was a moment in my life and the life of the society that will never be forgotten. As the words DCU Media Production Society were announced the feeling of pride was just overwhelming. It is so wonderful that all the hard work of everybody in the society is recognised at the highest level possible, the best in Ireland! How wonderfully lovely.”

It brings an end to MPS’s best awards season ever, during which DCUfm won four National Student Media Awards, four DCU Hybrid Awards, and MPS was named DCU’s best society.

Meg O’Riordan, DCU SU President, was sitting with us on the train home from Galway. She said: “What an epic night! I’m deeeelighted for MPS, what an awesome committed bunch of people. MPS saved the night and flew the DCU flag high. It was well deserved after a year of 24/7 dedication. Seriously, they never leave that studio! Not to mention what heroes they are. Well done lads.”

The BICS Awards is organised each year by the Board of Irish College Societies. For a full list of awards that DCUfm and MPS has won since 2009, click here.
